April's Birthstone Diamond: Is A Girls Best Friend
By Nadine Hamdan

Marilyn Monroe, Madonna, and Cristina Aguilera sang "Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend," and yes, they are. While most of us find the significance of diamonds in engagement rings, the size of diamond earrings, and even denoting class and wealth, diamonds are so, so much more.

While diamonds are the traditional birthstone of April and hold meaning for those born in that month because they are thought to provide the wearer with better relationships, love, and an increase in inner strength, they affect all 12 of the zodiac signs.

One of the reasons it is the traditional engagement ring is the eternal love it symbolizes and the rich blessings of fortune, balance, abundance, and clear thoughts. Diamonds brings many spiritual and literal benefits to the wearer:

As if that isn't powerful in and of itself, let's add the spiritual aspect of how each piece is designed, throw in a lot of Karma and Luck with doses of blessings, and you have yourself one gorgeous piece of jewelry packed with love.

Birthstones are steeped in many traditions, customs, and beliefs. We explore the origins of birthstones and delve into the history and meaning behind April's stunning birthstone: the diamond.

Diamonds date back so far; it is impossible to gauge how long ago. Millions of years perhaps and one of the most complex substances, it is, in and of itself, a literal "gem."

The Healing Powers of Diamonds

During the Middle Ages, diamonds were thought to hold healing powers and cure ailments stemming from the pituitary gland and brain. It was supposed to draw out the harmful toxins crippling the body by heating the crystal and taking it to bed.

It was also believed that diamonds could affect an individual's balance and clarity and boost their energy when combined with other crystals like Amethyst.

Known as the "King of all Birthstones," diamonds are known to be the "greatest gift" one can give to a loved one. Be it a proposal or simply an "I love you so much" between partners, best friends, or someone whom you feel deserves to wear a daily reminder that they are important, loved, and above all, necessary.

Today, birthstones are given as gifts in jewelry such as necklaces, earrings, and rings because birthstones represent good luck, longevity and happiness to those who wear them. A symbol that their birth is significant. Because it is.

April's Birthstone: The Diamond

Diamond Legends & Beliefs

Diamonds have been said to be the "tears of the god" and have many spiritual and romantic sentiments attached.

Ancient Romans were said to create Cupid's arrow encrusted with diamonds, hence the beliefs we have today of being struck by Cupid's bow.

The Hindu tradition links diamonds to Venus, while other ancient beliefs associated diamonds with the planet Mars. Stemmed from the practice of warriors wearing diamonds to give them strength, courage, and "invincible" protection, before engaging in battle.

Diamonds were also believed to have magical healing powers and could cure illnesses related to the brain and the pituitary gland. It was thought that diamonds held a certain purity, which enabled them to draw out poisonous toxins from the body.

Today, diamonds symbolize everlasting love and commitment. They make for a beautiful gift, in the form of birthstone spiritual jewelry, for someone who is in love, needs love, or is just super special in your world.
