The Ash Tree: The Magical, Medical, Mythology Offered

By EcommeArtify Collaborator

As the Ash tree spans out around the Universe, its roots grow deeper and deeper into the earth.  And ancient Druid phrase, “Know yourself and you will know the world,” means that within each of us, we are able to see how we link to the world in our way.

But the Ash tree is known to be beneficial in other ways, such as medicinal purposes. Ash bark is used as a mild diuretic and laxative. It is the rood bark that has the most potent of astringent properties. It has been used for treating arthritic rheumatism, liver diseases, kidney, and urinary infections. It has been known to reduce fever and expel intestinal parasites, even for treating malaria.

The Magical Properties Of The Ash Tree

According to ancient Greek, it is from Ash trees and Oak trees where humans were formed. The leaves of an Ash tree are said to attract love and the wood is burned at Yule for the prosperity it is believed to bring. Placing leaves from an Ash tree under one’s pillow at bedtime brings prophetic or psychic dreams.

Placing Ash leaves in a bowl of water beside your bed when you sleep will prevent illness according to some. And if you wear a garter made from green ash bark, you’re protected against a magician’s power. It is believed that passing an ill child through an Ash tree’s split trunk will heal them. You’ll have harmony, strength and feel the true sense of being when you sprinkle the leaves from an Ash tree in your surroundings.

Traditional Uses Of Ash Wood

Because Ashwood has a straight grain, it made it perfect for a besom broom’s handle and Druid wands.  It is said that witches’ brooms were frequently made of Ash, and yet it is the wood used for healing and magic. Caution is advised in electric storms because the lighting is attracted to Ash trees.

When one is feeling lonely, the Ash tree is believed to be the key to healing. It is said to link us to the Gods and the spirit world. The Ash tree is seen as a Tree of Initiation, holding the key to Cosmic Wisdom and Universal Truth.
